What are some recommended notary practices?
- Always follow state law that requires the signer to be in your physical presence every time you notarize without exception.
- Always have the signature on the document affixed or acknowledged in your presence.
- Always obtain identification that contains a photograph, physical description and signature.
- Always keep a chronological record of the notarial act, including the signature of the signer in your journal, which must be kept in your custody and control at all times.
- Always ask for a thumbprint of the signer in your journal to help protect against imposture.
- Always confirm that the signer is not being coerced and is willingly signing the documents you notarize.
- Always attach a Notary certificate if wording is not already printed on the document.
- Always notarize only documents that are complete and without blank spaces.
- Always use a seal when you notarize, and be sure to keep it in your custody and control at all times.
- Always refrain from giving advice to signers unless you have the professional training and credentials to do so.
Is there financial compensation for mileage?
CDS pays a flat fee per signing to cover any expense the mobile notary may incur such as mileage, time and gas. Contact our office for more information.
Can I make more money per signing with my fax machine and laser printer?
YES. We have clients who email or fax documents directly to our notaries. CDS compensates our notaries for receiving the loan documents electronically.
How are notaries selected for a signing appointment?
CDS reviews each team member based on experience, skills, equipment and proximity to the signing location. Our scheduling team assigns the most qualified notary to that assignment.
Is there a membership fee or any costs to be a mobile notary with CDS?
NO! There is absolutely no charge to be a member of our of signing team. CDS provides a free online profile system to ensure we have your most current information on file.
How do I receive payment?
As an independent contractor you simply fax back the signing order form that is sent to you prior to a signing appointment. Payment is mailed to the address on the signing order form.
